October 11, 2025 - Fly to Cambridge for Breakfast

Today, a bunch of us were headed to Cambridge for breakfast.  Wheels up 0900.  Grandson Griffin was flying with me in the Super Decathelon.  Bruce B. was riding with Chuck in his RV-7A.  Nhu-An was flying her Cessna 172 from Martin State with Russell as pax.  JJ flew his Skybolt from Easton.

The weather wasn't the best but it was certainly flyable.  They were forecasting broken or overcast at 2,200 feet, plenty high enough to fly under.  Winds were light.

Here we are crossing the Chesapeake Bay at about 1,500 feet.  It looks worse than it was.   We did fly through some light rain around St. Michaels.

We had taken off ahead of Chuck and Bruce but they caught up with us near St. Michaels.  Chuck went zooming past at least 40 mph faster than us.  Those RVs!

The Cambridge FBO and Carol's restaurant.

Enjoying breakfast at Carol's.  The pancakes in particular were outstanding:  thick, big and fluffy, with a dollop of warm butter on top.  Prices were very reasonable and service was excellent.  Everyone was happy.

Left to right:  Griffin, Me, Chuck, Russell, Nhu-An, Bruce and JJ.

Griffin and I in front of our ride.

Chuck and Bruce.  Bruce was amazed at how the autopilot flew the entire way except for takeoff and landing.

Nhu-An and Russell took off before the rest of us and had to fight the weather at times.

JJ and his Skybolt with the six-banger engine.

All four planes lined up.  Quite a dissimilar group.

Chuck and Bruce ready to go.

JJ ready to go.

Heading home.

Having fun flying home.  Griffin flew the Super D about half the time.

The rest of the day was great as well.  A lot was done on my RV-7 and the RV-10.  Griffin had fun riding the ATV around the Skypark.  As did I.  Gunnar had fun playing with Pooh all day, and running wild and free.
